Central University of Punjab receives donation of Rs 3.42 Lakh to establish endowment fund for fee payment of deserving Punjabi Language students

Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) has received a sum of Rs 3.42 lakh as an endowment from Lakhvinder Singh Gill to start an endowment fund in the form of a fee waiver (full or partial) for deserving students of the Department of Punjabi at the university.

Bathinda, September 1, 2022: Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) has received a sum of Rs 3.42 lakh as an endowment from Lakhvinder Singh Gill to start an endowment fund in the form of a fee waiver (full or partial) for deserving students of the Department of Punjabi at the university. This a first endowment received by the Department of Punjabi, CUPB, especially to promote opportunities to encourage students to peruse higher studies in Punjabi Language and Literature.

Lakhvinder Singh Gill is basically an engineer who completed his higher education in Textile Chemistry and started his professional career as faculty in the department of Chemical Sciences at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He belongs to village Dhamot, District Ludhiana and is presently settled in Canada. He is a sports lover and established a Hockey Club at Toronto, Canada in 2006.

Prof. Zameer Pal Kaur, Dean, School of Language, Literature and Culture, CUPB, initiated the discussion with Lakhvinder Singh Gill to start an endowment fund and assured him that the donation would be utilized for appropriate causes. She informed that the interest of this endowment fund will be used for payment of fees for needy students of M.A. Punjabi every year.

On this occasion, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed his gratitude towards Lakhvinder Singh Gill for his act of kindness for setting up an endowment fund for needy students of MA Punjabi in the Dept. of Punjabi, CUPB. He also stated that this initiative of Mr. Gill will inspire other persons to contribute for enhancing the opportunities of higher education for needy students.

Prof. B.P. Garg, Controller of Examination and Registrar (O), on behalf of university thanked Gill for his efforts to impart education to deserving students irrespective of caste and creed. Prof. Vinod Kumar Garg, Dean Student Welfare, mentioned that such kind of donation will surely enhance the opportunities to pursue higher education in Punjabi language in the region.

All faculty members of the Dept. of Punjabi thanked Gill for his noble contribution to create a valuable asset in the department in the form of financial support to the deserving students.
