CERVICAL PAIN DURING LOCKDOWN AND STRATEGIES OF PREVENTION
Prof.Sandeep S.Saini, Principal, College of Physiotherapy,  Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana .

Ludhiana: Pain in and around neck and shoulder is known cervical pain and some time may refer to the arms, (with underlying pathology).
Why it is more common these days; due to lockdown most of us are at home and keeping ourselves busy, informed and entertained on social media (to avoid the social gatherings as per recommendation of Government). and doing all this, many-a-times due to wrong positioning or wrong pillows cervical pain may start or exaggerate if someone already having it and the person may experience the above listed symptoms. There can be few more factors that may result in spasms around the neck such as Inadequate sleep, stress, muscle strain and arthritis.
Stating this, Prof.Sandeep S.Saini, Principal, College of Physiotherapy, Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana added, to avoid all this we have to follow simple exercise regime while sitting at home and these are as under- flexion  exercise ( bending forward within the limits of pain); Cervical Extension exercise ( bending backward within the limits of pain); Side way bending both side ( start bending right first and followed by other side); Shrugging of the shoulder. Do all these exercises twice a day and five repetitions in one sitting.
In the end, please continue to do these exercises and if problem does not subside please consult your physician or physiotherapist.
