CGA to kick-start celebrations of 25 years of its inception with golf tournament
The Chandigarh Golf Association (CGA) will kick-start its 25 years of inception by holding the Silver Jubilee Golf Cup. Notably CGA has become a beacon for nurturing talent and promoting golf in the region with its 6-acre, all-weather, flood-lit driving range with a 9-hole pitch and putt course and Golf Academy.
Chandigarh, January 15, 2025: The Chandigarh Golf Association (CGA) will kick-start its 25 years of inception by holding the Silver Jubilee Golf Cup. Notably CGA has become a beacon for nurturing talent and promoting golf in the region with its 6-acre, all-weather, flood-lit driving range with a 9-hole pitch and putt course and Golf Academy.
S K Sharma, IPS (Retd.) President CGA addressed a media conference to share greater details of the Silver Jubilee celebrations. The General Secretary, CGA, Er. Harpuneet Singh Sandhu, who is also the Member of the Governing Council of the Indian Golf Union (IGU), the National Sports Federation for Golf in India and Chairman of the National Golf Squad for the State of India, responsible for choosing, training, managing the National Golf team of India accompanied Sharma in the Press Conference along with Sanjiv DP Azad, IRS, Vice President, CGA and Monish DP Azad, Treasurer, CGA.
Sharma who is also Hon. Secretary, Governing Council, Indian Golf Union (IGU), said that the highlight of the celebrations is the Silver Jubilee CGA Cup Pro-Am Tournament, set to take place on January 16th, 2025 at Chandigarh Golf Club.
Sharma said, “This prestigious event will feature some of India’s finest golfers and amateurs who have been nurtured at CGA, including Gaganjit Bhullar, Yuvraj Sandhu, Raghav Bhandari, Karandeep Kochhar, Uttam Singh Mundy, Gurbazz Mann, Aadil Bedi, and other notable names.”
“The tournament, played in a tour scramble format, will see 20 four-ball teams and a total of 80 players, including eminent dignitaries and administrators from the golfing world,” added Sharma.
The celebrations will culminate in a gala prize distribution for the tournament winners, where Member of Parliament Satnam Singh Sandhu as Chief Guest will give away the prizes. 25 professionals and amateurs who have brought laurels to the city will be felicitated . Additionally, a Lifetime Achievement Award will be conferred upon Padma Shri Jeev Milkha Singh, honouring his outstanding contributions to Indian golf. Brijinder Singh, President, Indian Golf Union (IGU) will grace the occasion.

It is noteworthy that since its inception in 1999, CGA has achieved remarkable milestones. This includes pioneering the promotion of Golf Tourism by initiating Chandigarh Golfing Tours way back in 2007, attracting over 400 golfers from 12 countries. CGA contributing to Professional Development of golf has hosted the National Golf Academy of India (NGAI) since 2004, training 275 teaching professionals. To engage the community CGA Launched the Golf from Schools to Range program, introducing golf to schoolchildren and fostering inclusivity. What’s more, CGA is home to Jaskirat Singh Grewal (Jesse Grewal), the first Indian golf coach to receive the Dronacharya Award.
