Chair more important than that of public interest for Congress: Kalia 

Jalandhar: Manoranjan Kalia Former Minister Punjab and Former State President, Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab has said on this day i.e. June 25 an emergency was clamped in whole over India by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. At that time the democracy of India was throttled, fundamental rights, enshrined in the Constitution of India were suspended, the censorship was imposed on the Print Media and all the leaders were put behind the bars. 

Addressing the media persons here today, he added that all this was done to save the Prime Ministerial chair of Indira Gandhi whose election was declared null & void by the then  Justice  Jagmohan Sinha on June 12, 1975 in a decision of  an election petition filed by Raj Narain. Thus, June 25,1975 was black day for Indian Democracy.

Though 46 years have passed and no party in power can repeat this blunder but those tendencies are still prevalent in the Congress. There is no Democracy in the Congress Party. The Post of National President of Indian National Congress on the one pretext or the other is still being rotated in the Gandhi family between mother and son (Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi), he said.

Adding, he said in order to curb the growing dissidence among Congress legislators in Punjab, Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh took the decision in the Cabinet meeting to appoint the son of Fateh Jang Bajwa MLA  as Inspector in Punjab Police and the son of Rakesh Panday MLA as Naib Tehsildar on compassionate grounds by suspending the rules of compassionate appointment as these appointments do not cover under the rules of compassionate appointments. Moreover there were hue and cry in the Congress itself. 

He said it is pertinent to note that immediately coming to power in 2017, Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh in a similar way gave compassionate appointment of DSP to the grandson of Former Chief Minister Beant Singh after 22 years of martyrdom. The said appointment was stayed by Hon’ble Punjab & Haryana High Court.

Thus The Chair is more important than that of public interest for the Congress, said Kalia, adding that the Congress can go even now to any extent to save the Chair. The Bharatiya Janata Party is observing 25th June as “Black Day” to make the people of India to be vigilant because those who forget history are condemned to repeat it, he said.
