Chandigarh lifts the T 10 inter-state Wheelchair Cricket Tournament Trophy

Hosts Chandigarh have lifted the T 10 Interstate Wheelchair Cricket Tournament’s trophy. The tourney was organised by The Women and Child Care Welfare Foundation (WCCWF), a leading Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO), in collaboration with Institute of Development and Communication (IDC) Chandigarh and Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) at the Cricket Ground of GSSS, Sector 26, Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, February 2, 2025: Hosts Chandigarh have lifted the T 10 Interstate Wheelchair Cricket Tournament’s trophy. The tourney was organised by The Women and Child Care Welfare Foundation (WCCWF), a leading Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO), in collaboration with Institute of Development and Communication (IDC) Chandigarh and Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) at the Cricket Ground of GSSS, Sector 26, Chandigarh.

Chandigarh defeated Delhi to win the tournament. Delhi batting first put up 126 for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 10 overs. Delhi’s Captain Prashant Singh was unbeaten on 52. For Chandigarh Rakesh Verma took 2 wickets in two overs giving away 31 runs. Sandeep Kundu and Sheel Chand took 1 wicket apiece. In reply, Chandigarh scored 129 for the loss of two wickets in 9.4 overs thereby winning the match by 8 wickets. Sandeep Kundu’s unbeaten 85 runs helped Chandigarh sail through. Captain Veer Singh scored 30 not out. Delhi’s bowlers were not able to take any wicket and both the dismissals on the Chandigarh side were a result of run outs.

 

Earlier in the day semi-finals were played. In the first semi-final played between Chandigarh and Punjab, Chandigarh scored 149 for 3 and Punjab was able to put up only 104 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 10 overs. Chandigarh thereby won comfortably by 45 runs. In the second semi-final Rajasthan played against Delhi.  While Rajasthan put up 69 for 6 in 10 overs, Delhi made 72 for 3 in just 6.4 overs to win the match by 7 wickets.

 

As a result of the semis the final was played between Delhi and Chandigarh.

 

Sandeep Kundu from Chandigarh was adjudged best batter of the tournament and Saurabh Malik from Delhi the best bowler.


The Chief Guest on the concluding day was Rajan Datt, Commissioner (GST), Panchkula. The guests’ of honour were Devinder Singh, Pro VC, Chandigarh University(CU); R.C Mishra, Ex DGP, Haryana; Jasbir Bunty, Sr Dy Mayor, Chandigarh; Dr BC Gupta, IAS (Retd); and Sandeep Passi, MD, Intersoft Data Labs & Solutions.

Kamaljeet Singh, General Secretary, WCCWF, said: “Rs. 51000 prize money was given to the winning team, Rs. 31,000 to the 1st runners-up and Rs. 21000 to the 2nd runners-up. All players were given a medal and certificate.”


Jasbeer Kaur, President, WCCWF said, “The best batter and bowler of the tournament received a cash prize of Rs 3000 each and a consolation prize of Rs 5000 was given to Rajasthan.”

Fortis Hospital Mohali was the healthcare partner and Capital 90.8 FM, the radio partner.
