Chandigarh, September 13, 2013:  A NRI delegation of 27 youth from various countries led by S.S. Channy, Principal Secretary Cultural and NRI Affairs, Punjab today called on Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Shivraj V. Patil at Punjab Raj Bhavan under Known India Programme.

Interacting with the students, Patil said that this initiative of Government of India would provide you a unique forum to know rich cultural values of India and also enables you to share your views and to bond closely with contemporary India and the progress made by the country in various fields which includes economic, industrial, education and science & technology. He said that this programme would educate you on different facets of Indian life by witnessing vast cultural and religious diversity.

Patil asked all the young students of Indian origin to adopt broadmindedness and positive attitude in their lives. He also asked them to visit Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament at Delhi.

On inquiring about the places they visited and liked in Punjab the students replied that they visited Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Anandpur Sahib and liked Golden Temple, Railway Coach Factory and Retreat Ceremony of Wagha Border in Amritsar.

Earlier giving brief description regarding the visit, S.S. Channy said that this 25th Know India Programme was arranged by Ministry of overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India, in collaboration with State of Punjab, with a view to create awareness among foreign youth of Indian origin about the phenomenal transformations taking place in India.

Prominent amongst others present in the meeting included M.P. Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor, Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu, and Major Vivek Anand  both ADC to Punjab Governor.
