Chandigarh, August 21, 2015: Punjab Education Minister Dr.Daljit Singh Cheema while expressing his views during the 5th World Education Summit at New Delhi emphasized on the need of forming Education Policies in tune with the ground realities and quality education. Referring to the RTE Act 2009 formed to streamline the education system; he said that there were a few flaws like not to fail the student till 8th class and Board examination for 5th and 8th classes left at the time of shaping up this Act which would be rectified after making required changes as per the voice raised by all states.
Categorically laying stress on strengthening the primary and vocational education, Dr. Cheema said that the Primary education was the basic foundation on which the student’s entire academic career was based on. He expressed concern over the child’s getting admission in government school at the age of 6 where as the private schools admit the student at the age of 3. He said that the pattern of admissions all over should be uniformed in the interest of the child.
Dr. Cheema also suggested that in order to ensure quality education and eliminating unemployment, the vocational and job oriented coursed should be introduced so as to provide education as per the Industrial needs. The Minister called upon the policy makers, planners in the field of education, teachers and parents to work jointly in strengthening the existing education system in the country. 
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary C Roul highlighted the new initiatives taken by the Punjab government in promoting the quality and affordable education in the state.
