CICU condemns power tariff being imposed from 16th June’ 2024

Ludhiana, June 14, 2024: Upkar Singh Ahuja President CICU said that Punjab Govt. has made appreciating efforts to purchase Govindwal Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 120MW power generation. Punjab Govt. has also managed cheap coal supply to Thermal Plants from Jharkhand Coal Mines at much cheaper rates. These efforts will definitely result in availability of electricity supply.

Despite these efforts, PSPCL  (Punjab State Power Corporation Limited) has announced its intention to increase electricity prices from June 16th, which is seen as damaging to the industry. Sri Honey Sethi, General Secretary CICU has joined in requesting the government not only to reconsider this price increase but also to focus on improving the quality of power supply, as frequent power cuts are also detrimental to industries.

It sounds like there are concerns about the proposed increase in electricity tariffs residential 10-12 paisa and commercial 15 paisa per units in Punjab. Upkar Singh Ahuja, President of CICU, has expressed worries about how this increase could negatively impact industries, especially during what he refers to as crucial times. During the Sangam Darshan event in Ludhiana, the honorable Chief Minister announced that efforts were being made to reduce electricity costs.

In summary, CICU and its representatives are advocating against the proposed tariff increase, emphasizing its potential negative impact on the industrial sector and urging improvements in both pricing strategies and power supply reliability.

US Ahuja strongly demanded from Punjab Govt. to reduce electricity supply rates to industrial consumer by at least Rs. 1/ per unit with immediate effect Orders.

This will promote the industrial productivity and export from the state.
