CICU Delegation Meeting regarding Centre of Manufacturing Excellence

Ludhiana, August 17, 2024: The Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU) convened a significant meeting at Udyog Bhawan in Chandigarh with D.P.S. Kharbanda, CEO of Invest Punjab.

The focus of the meeting was to discuss the establishment of a Common Facility Centre as a Centre of Manufacturing Excellence (Product Design & Development) - CMEPDD. D.P.S. Kharbanda appreciated this initiative of CICU and gave in-principal approval for this project under the scheme. This is first such project under this scheme which has got approval.

CICU is strategically moving forward to set up the Centre of Manufacturing Excellence under the scheme to avail assistance through the State Mini Cluster Development Program of the Punjab Industrial and Business Development Policy 2022. This initiative aims to enhance manufacturing capabilities and foster innovation within the industrial sector of Punjab.

The imperative need for the Centre of Manufacturing Excellence arises from the industry's necessity to compete effectively in both domestic and international markets. Countries like China, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Vietnam have excelled in rapid component development, posing a challenge to Indian industries. Through interactions with these nations, CICU members observed the pivotal role of research and development centers in expediting component and product advancements.

While research centers thrive in major Indian cities like Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Sonipat (Haryana), Ludhiana, as a prominent manufacturing hub with numerous small and medium manufacturing units, lacks such a crucial facility. Establishing the Centre of Manufacturing Excellence in Ludhiana will bridge this gap and empower local industries to innovate, compete, and thrive in the global marketplace.

Total cost of this project is Rs. 4.5 Crores out of which Rs. 3 Crores will be given as subsidy by the State Govt. under this scheme. CICU remains committed to driving industrial growth and innovation in Punjab, and the establishment of the Centre of Manufacturing Excellence marks a significant step towards enhancing the competitiveness and capabilities of the region's manufacturing sector.
