CII-IWN organises screening of National award-winning film `Admitted’
The film sensitises people about the rights of the LGBTQ community. Officials of CII watch the film.
Chandigarh, May 17, 2023: The Confederation of Indian Industry - Indian Women Network (CII-IWN) in sync with its theme of 'Diversity Beyond Gender’ for 2022-2023, organised the screening of national award-winning film 'Admitted'. The screening, held at the auditorium of Govt Museum of Art here today, marked the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia – a day that aims to coordinate international events that raise awareness of LGBTQ rights violations and stimulate interest in the LGBTQ rights work worldwide.
“It was encouraging to see the people’s response. We need to go beyond the confines of gender and express our thought process and actions towards inclusion of all choices, genders, and orientation in mainstream lives,” said Nagina Bains, Chairperson, CII-IWN Chandigarh Chapter.
Ojaswwee Sharma, Director of 'Admitted', that received the prestigious National Award from President Droupadi Murmu at the 68th National Awards, said: "We have through the film endeavoured to bring out an important aspect of our society. We need to recognize the rights of LBTQ too."
The two-hour long screening of 'Admitted' was attended by Vivek Gupta, Chairperson, CII, along with the members of CII and CII-IWN. The screening was done to sensitise people about the rights of LGBTQ community.
The movie 'Admitted' is based on the life of Dhananjay Chauhan, a pivotal force behind the LBTQI rights and their inclusion in the main societal framework.
Ojaswwee’s work in films for impact and change has been recognized on various platforms. 'Admitted', a feature documentary, explores the largest case of transgender education in a mainstream university in north India, further highlighting the first public washroom for transgenders in a university, and the development of transgender rights and education.
It is to be noted that 'Admitted' is a biographical docudrama on the life of Dhananjay Chauhan - the first transgender student of Panjab University.
