Chandigarh, May 15, 2023: CII-IWN - Confederation of Indian Industry - Indian Women Network – in sync with its theme of  'Diversity Beyond Gender’ for 2022-2023, will screen the National award-winning film – 'Admitted', directed by Chandigarh-based film director Ojaswwee Sharma. The screening will be held on the International Day against homophobia , transphobia and biphobia, May 17 at 6 pm  in the auditorium of the Government Museum of Art, Sector 10, here.


“The endeavour and central idea is to go beyond the confines of gender and express our thought process and actions towards inclusion of all choices, genders, and orientation in mainstream lives. The movie – 'Admitted' - is based on the life of Dhananjay Chauhan, a pivotal force behind the LBTQI rights and their inclusion in the main societal framework,” said Nagina Bains, Chairperson, CII IWN Chandigarh Chapter.


Admitted won the prestigious National Award by the Government of India, presented by President Droupadi Murmu at the 68th National Awards. Ojaswwee’s work in films for impact and change has been recognized on various platforms. 'Admitted', a feature documentary, explores the largest case of transgender education in a mainstream public university in North India, further highlighting the first public washroom for transgenders in a public university, and the development of transgender rights, education, and acceptance of mainstream pre and post the historic NALSA Judgement of 2014 of adding the third gender to India. 


Admitted is a biographical docudrama on the life of Dhananjay Chauhan - the first transgender student of Panjab University – her life journey with a thrust on education along with gender identification, dilemmas, and expression in personal life and the LGBTQIA+ diaspora.
