Ludhiana, November 4, 2012: The last day of the CII Ludhiana Fair at Government College for Women grounds on Sunday saw a large number of people queuing up for shopping, especially of fancy lamps for Diwali, decoration pieces like diyas and rangoli material, besides gifts and murtis and dry fruits.

The weekend at the consumer fair, organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), witnessed surging crowds towards the evening hours. Women in their colourful festive finery, youngsters loitering around with their college friends, and families with children in tow were seen carrying shopping bags full of consumables. The crowds at the food stalls started building up steadily by around 7 pm. Pakistani food stalls serving kebabs proved very popular, and so were the Chinese stalls serving noodles. Youngsters also were lining up for their favourite pizzas.

The Pakistan Pavilion attracted more ladies on Sunday evening. Saturday too was chocabloc with shoppers. In many stalls, the ladies far outnumbered the men. Avon Cycles was wooing customers with their three new products – for kids, ladies and teenagers.

Simran, a pretty college student, was busy buying some chunky jewellery from a Pakistani stall. She said: “These stalls are amazing. I’ll also be in Chandigarh and visit the CII fair there too next week.” Vishal, a bachelor, said he wished he was married so that he could get his wife to shop here.

Alongwith the consumer fair, a B2B fair called Destination Punjab was also running simultaneously at the college grounds in the first pavilion. Businessmen and entrepreneurs evinced interest in the engineering products on display and attended the conferences at Hall 2 of the fair. The B2B fair was extended by a day on persistent demands by local industrialists.

The four-day CII Ludhiana Fair, along with Destination Punjab, concluded on Sunday evening. The next stop for the CII consumer fair is at Chandigarh, whose 17th edition will run from November 7-11. Coming right before Diwali, the popular CII Chandigarh Fair, is expected to attract a record number of people this year from around the region.
