CIIS Institute signs MoU with Saskatchewan Polytechnic
Chandigarh, November  21, 2014: The CIIS Institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saskatchewan Polytechnic – a prairie province of Canada – enabling the students to take the first year of a two year Hotel and Restaurant Mangement Diploma Program in English at CIIS Campus in Chandigarh.
Associate Vice-President, Business Development, Saskatchewan Polytechnic David Harvey and President, Continental Institute for International Lt. Col. B.S. Sandhu signed the MoU in presence of Studies Premier of Saskatchewan Brad Wall. Government officials from the Province of Saskatchewan, Consulate General of Canada Dr. Rajani Alexander, Trade Commissioner Gurbans Sobti, David Harvey, Associate Vice President, SK Polytechnic, people from the print & electronic media, faculty and staff of CIIS and CIIS students to were present at the MoU signing ceremony.
Lt Col Sandhu said that the MoU allows Saskatcehwan Polytechnic to expand its course offering (from its Business Certificate in English) at the CIIS to Hotel and Restaurant Management under a new contract for delivery in the Fall of 2015.  Students will study for the first year at CIIS and for the second year would be able to study at Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Saskatoon campus. Initially twenty students would be enrolled under this program.
He added that the CIIS has had partnered with Saskatchewan Polytechnic in 2012 and had its first intake in Fall 2013 for the Business Certificate Program. The students complete first year with generic business courses here at CIIS and seek transfer in second year with an option to choose from five specializations, after meeting all eligibility criterion laid by Saskatchewan Polytechnic and Study Visa Application.
“After the successful partnership for Business Certificate Program, we have mutually agreed to sign second program in Hotel and Restaurant Management Program with Saskatchewan Polytechnic. The Program Head Michael Van Grondelle visited us early this year and has gone through the facilities at CIIS and has approved to run this program. Also for the practicum delivery, we have signed an agreement with one of the reputed hotel and restaurant in Chandigarh, so that students learn in the actual environment,” revealed Lt Col Sandhu.
Listing the strengths and past achievements of CIIS, Lt Col Sandhu said that CIIS is a local venue for global avenues. It provides 25 percent of the cost of an international credential and has more than 1800 students transferred already to the parent institutes since its inception.
The CIIS has guest faculty from Canada to ensure students get the feel of actual environment her. The faculty gets trained by partner institutes during their frequent visits to CIIS or the CIIS faculty visits Canada to learn about the teaching methodologies.
Ameen Bery, who is a local Program Coordinator-India for Saskatchewan Polytechnic, oversees the conduct of the programs on campus. In addition to this, CIIS has visiting faculty from Saskatchewan Polytechnic who have visited CIIS at different times of the year to extend support for the delivery of the BCP program.
