Ludhiana, January 10, 2013: NABARD today organised first awareness programme on forward market trading for 28 different Primary Agriculture Credit (PAC) Societies of Ludhiana here at the Central Institute Post Harvest Engineering and Technology.
In this workshop the keynote address was delivered by DDM NABARD Nalin K Rai, who informed the participants about the need of forward trading and how it would help the farmers in improving sustainability of agriculture in Punjab.
Dr Joginder Singh deliberating on the issues posed that there is a need for developing societies as export houses. A beginning in this direction would be made by developing a hub of three districts Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar in Punjab. He told that need of the hour was for the farmers to diversify if agriculture has to become sustainable.
DDM NABARD underlined that farmers need to be informed about the price of the commodities that they are growing.
Participants thanked NABARD for creating awareness among themselves for forward trading and hoped that it would help them in future.
