Chandigarh, March 14, 2015: Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Kailash Satyarthi has been working for the emancipation of children and victims of bonded labour since 1980. He has led movements to rescue and rehabilitate over 83000 children from various servitude and hazardous industries. He has been the architect of the single largest civil society network for the most exploited children, the ‘Global March against Child Labour’.
Kailash Satyarthi is a recipient of many international awards such as The Trumpeter Award, Golden Flag Award and Defenders of Democracy Award. Nobel prize citation recognizes him for his struggle against the suppression of children and the rights of children to education. He is the second Indian after Mother Teresa to receive Nobel Peace prize. The Senate of Panjab University recommends that Noble Laureate Satyarthi be admitted to the Degree of Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa). / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
