CM announces Jal Shakti Division for Kangra; Promises massive development
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while addressing a public gathering at Matour in the Kangra Assembly constituency, announced the establishment of a Jal Shakti Department Division in Kangra. He also pledged to introduce new courses at Matour College and enhance water and electricity infrastructure in the region. The construction of a Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School and a new bridge over Jalodi Khad were among other major announcements.
Dharamshala, January 21, 2025: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while addressing a public gathering at Matour in the Kangra Assembly constituency, announced the establishment of a Jal Shakti Department Division in Kangra. He also pledged to introduce new courses at Matour College and enhance water and electricity infrastructure in the region. The construction of a Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School and a new bridge over Jalodi Khad were among other major announcements.
Highlighting his personal connection with Kangra, the Chief Minister assured that the district would witness unprecedented growth in the next five years under the Congress government. He emphasized initiatives to ensure accessible healthcare, better water supply, and essential services for rural communities.
The CM outlined several measures to revitalize the rural economy, where over 80% of the state’s population resides:
Milk Purchase Price Hike: Increased by ₹15.
Cow-Dung Procurement Scheme: A pioneering initiative in the state.
Natural Farming Support: 4,000 metric tonnes of maize procured at ₹30 per kg, with wheat procurement planned at ₹40 per kg.
MNREGA Wage Increase: Daily wages raised from ₹240 to ₹300.
Milk Processing Plant: A facility with a 1.5 lakh liter capacity being set up in Dhagwar, set to benefit three lakh farmers.
The Chief Minister criticized the BJP government for its alleged failures in education and health policies. He blamed the previous administration for declining school enrollments and highlighted ongoing reforms, such as changes in Annual Confidential Report (ACR) norms for evaluating government officers.
The government is introducing state-of-the-art medical equipment in colleges, with ₹100 crore sanctioned for facilities in Tanda, IGMC, and Ner Chowk Medical Colleges. Additionally, UV filter technology will be employed to improve water quality statewide.
The government has resolved 2.42 lakh pending revenue cases through special 'Intkal Adalats' and sanctioned 31,000 posts across departments. The CM also urged affluent citizens to voluntarily forgo subsidies to aid rationalization efforts.
Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Chairman R.S. Bali commended the Chief Minister's efforts to support marginalized groups and his leadership during the recent state disaster. Former MLA Surender Kaku lauded the allocation of over ₹88 crore for projects in the area.
Prominent attendees included Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, MLAs Kishori Lal and Suresh Kumar, and other dignitaries.
