CM asks private colleges and universities to establish at least one skill center in their campuses

SAS Nagar (Mohali), February 8, 2014: Giving a clarion call to the private colleges and Universities to set at least one skill center in their campuses, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said that it would help in enabling the youth of the state to get gainfully self employed.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the first Technical Education and Skill Development Summit jointly organised by the Punjab government, PUTIA and Punjab Technical University (PTU) here today, the Chief Minister, while expressing concern over the shortage of skilled labor in the state, said that opening of such centers was the need of hour to cope up with the needs of industry besides making the youth self employed. He said that this summit was first of its kind in the country and the organisers deserved kudos for successfully organising it. Badal said that the future of country lies with the youth, who were the catalysts of growth and progress so special focus should be laid to impart quality education to them.
The Chief Minister also impressed upon the private universities and colleges to give sizeable concessions to the students of economically weaker sections desirous of having technical education. He said that no one should be deprived of getting this education due to the financial constraints. Mr. Badal also exhorted the students to work hard for leaving a deep imprint in the field of education adding that the Punjabis were blessed with an indomitable spirit of hard work due to which they have a track record of excelling in every field.
The Chief Minister further said that due to the concerted efforts of the state government, Punjab was today emerging as a hub of Education and Health care in the country. He said that an Educity was being established over 1700 acres in Mohali adding that the city would soon have a Medi-city also. Likewise, he said that the state government was also developing the city as a IT hub of the region. Badal said that in recently concluded Progressive Punjab Investor’s Summit, the world renowned companies have firmed up an investment of Rs 65000 crore in the state, which would help in generating employment for more than 2 lakh youth. He also said that due to the stupendous efforts of the state government Punjab has today emerged as an epitome of peace, communal harmony, brotherhood and amity in the country.
On the occasion the Chief Minister also honored the bright students who had carved a niche for themselves in the field of technical education. Likewise he also felicitated seven personalities from the field of education with the lifetime achievement award.
Earlier, the Technical Education Minister Madan Mohan Mittal in his welcome address lauded the private colleges and universities for creating a congenial atmosphere for education in the state. Assuring fulsome support and cooperation to these institutions, Mittal said that the state government would leave no stone unturned for this noble cause.
