CM: Satguru Jagjit Singh Maharaj’s death great loss to country

Manish Tewari, Jassowal, Bawa and Pawan Dewan also express grief

Ludhiana, December 14, 2012: Thousands of people from all walks of life today bid a tearful adieu to the head of Namdhari Sect Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh Maharaj, who passed away at Ludhiana on Thursday evening after a prolonged illness.  He was cremated at Namdhari Darbar in Bhaini Sahib where his mortal remains were consigned to the flames amidst a sea
of humanity assembled on the occasion. His grandson Jai Singh lit the pyre amidst heart rendering scenes.

Talking to the media persons after attending the cremation of Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that in the death of Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh the nation has lost one of the most revered religious personalities who always acted, as a beacon to guide the destiny of mankind in the present materialistic society by inspiring the people to tread on the path of spirituality.

Recalling the valuable services rendered by Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh in ushering an era of communal harmony, brotherhood, peace and amity in the country, Badal said that he was a great spiritual ambassador and an eminent social reformer who played a proactive role in eradicating social evils like female foeticide, dowry and drug addiction from the society.

Describing Satguru Jagjit Singh as an institution in himself, the Chief Minister said that he was known and highly respected amongst the people for his philanthropic works in the field of education and health. He said that Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh played a vanguard role in popularizing the concept of organic farming of vegetables, fruits and flowers besides promoting music and sports.

Badal further said that in death of Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh a void has been created in the socio-religious sphere which was difficult to be filled. He also remembered the immense contribution made by the Namdhari sect during the freedom struggle of India to free the country from the yoke of British imperialism.

Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family and Namdhari sect, the Chief Minister prayed to Almighty to give strength to them in this hour of grief and grant peace to the departed soul.

On the occasion the Chief Minister also shared his condolences with Mata Chand Kaur wife of Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh, his daughter Sahib Kaur, Nephew Udai Singh, Son-in-law Sant Jagtar Singh, Surinder Singh Namdhari and other family members of the legendary religious leader.

Meanwhile Head of Dera Beas Baba Gurinder Singh, Baba Lakhvir Singh Ratwara Sahib and Sant Amrik Singh Panj Bhainian also attended the cremation of Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh.

Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Cabinet Ministers Adesh Pratap Singh Kairon, Sarwan Singh Phillaur and Sharanjeet Singh Dhillon, Chief Parliamentary Secretary KD Bhandari, MLAs Balwinder Singh Bains and Darshan Singh Shivalik, Former Ministers Jathedar Hira Singh Gabria and Satpal Gosain, former MP Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra and former MLA Ranjeet Singh Talwandi.    

Meanwhile, express deep concern over the Satguru’s death, Ludhiana MP and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (Independent charge) Manish Tewari, has said the Satguru’s death had rendered such a loss, which could never be fulfilled. He said the Satguru’s contribution to the society and the nation could never be forgotten.

In a separate statement, Baba Banda Singh Bahadar International Foundation’s chief patron Jagdev Singh Jassowal and president Krishan Kumar Bawa have said the Satguru’s death has rendered an irreparable loss to the whole society. Jassowal said that Namdhari Sect had contributed a lot during the freedom movement and taught way of life to the society. He said under the Satguru’s leadership Namdhari  Hockey had attained a special place, adding the Sect had also played a key role in providing the health services.

In a statement, expressing concerned over the death, the Ludhiana DCC (Urban) president Pawan Dewan has termed the death as a great loss to the humanity. He said Satguru always preached for welfare of the humanity and worked against the social evils. He hoped that the Satguru’s ideology would always keep on guiding people.
