CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu meets Dalai Lama ahead of elections
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu visited Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama at his residence in McLeodganj, Dharamshala, on Friday morning to inquire about his well-being. Congress candidate from Dharamsala, Davinder Jaggi, accompanied him.
Dharamshala, May 24, 2024: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu visited Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama at his residence in McLeodganj, Dharamshala, on Friday morning to inquire about his well-being. Congress candidate from Dharamsala, Davinder Jaggi, accompanied him.
After the meeting, CM Sukhu said, "Whenever I come to Dharamsala, I meet the Dalai Lama and seek blessings for the prosperity of the state." He added that the Dalai Lama remarked on the beauty of Himachal Pradesh and India, noting that the respect for all religions in the country is admirable.
This visit is significant as it comes just before the Dharamsala Legislative Assembly by-election and the Lok Sabha election on June 1. Approximately 800 Tibetan exiles have registered as voters in the Dharamshala constituency in Kangra, highlighting the importance of the region in the upcoming elections.
