CMC’s College of Nursing Professor attends World Conference in Israel
Ludhiana, January 9, 2019: Mrs.Premlata Prakash, Associate Professor and H.O.D, Child Health Nursing Department, College of Nursing at Christian medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana attended 13th World Conference on Bioethics, Medical Ethics and Health Law chaired by UNESCO held in Jerusalem, Israel form 27th - 29th November, 2018. She is the only nurse from India and presented her research paper titled "Bioethics perspectives of nursing students.” She conducted a research study along with her Co-authors, Dr. Usha Singh, Mrs. Richa Justin Hans, Assistant Prof., Prof. (Mrs.) Seema Barnabas and Mrs. Balquis Victor, Associate Prof. The study was to assess the knowledge and attitude of nursing students regarding bioethics. The findings revealed that there was poor relationship between knowledge and attitude as the area of bioethics is not included in nursing curriculum. On the basis of the results further recommendations given to Indian Nursing Council, the statutory licensing body of nurses in India, to ensure strict adherence of bioethics at bachelor's and Master's level in nursing education as part of the curriculum. Also at least one clinical nurse should be in the institutional ethics committee in every medical and research institution.
