CMCH inaugurated its vitreoretinal services
Ludhiana, November 26, 2021: The Department of Ophthalmology, Christian Medical College and Hospital inaugurated its vitreoretinal services yesterday. Dr. S.P.Singh Civil Surgeon Ludhiana was the Chief Guest for the occasion. He lauded the efforts of CMC in catering to the needs of the community through their outreach services and providing state of the art medical services at affordable cost. Dr. Manu Vij SMO Eye Mobile Unit, Ludhiana was the Guest of Honour. According to Dr. Arun Bhatti, Vitreretinal Surgeon at CMC, with India becoming the Diabetic capital of the world, the number of patients developing diabetic retinopathy is rapidly increasing. Early detection and timely treatment can prevent blindness due to diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Rupali Chopra Professor & amp; Head told that the Eye Department at CMC has been a pioneer in community outreach services and with this latest addition to their services they will be able to screen patients for diabetic retinopathy in the community itself right at their doorstep. She thanked the Ludhiana CMC Board, USA who provided funding for the Diabetic retinopathy Screening program and equipment for establishing vitreoretinal services at CMC &H. Dr. William Bhatti, Director CMC&H encouraged and appreciated the efforts of CMC eye department in constantly expanding and upgrading the scope of their outreach services. Dr. Jeyraj Pandian, Principal, CMC & H stressed the importance of community screening and spreading awareness in preventing irreversible visual loss due to conditions like diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Puneet Sidhu (MO, Eye Mobile Unit, Ludhiana); Dr. Ripudaman (MO, Ophthalmology, Civil Hospital) also graced the event with their presence. The function was attended by the faculty, students and nursing staff of CMC & H.
