CME on Crisis Resource Management and Patient Safety Course held
Ludhiana, December 6, 2021: Department of Critical Care Medicine and Department of Anesthesiology, DMCH Ludhiana in association with Ludhiana city branch of ISCCM and ISA organized course on a very important aspect of health care- "Crisis Resource Management and Patient Safety" with the theme of “Minimizing Medical Mishaps” on 5th December 2021.
This meeting was first of its kind in India, whose initiative was taken by Dr P L Gautam, Professor & Head Department of Critical Care Medicine. He has taken inspiration from aviation and safety principle to train the acute care physicians managing the sick patients in critical areas of hospital.
The Program was formally inaugurated by Principal Dr Sandeep Puri along with Dean Academics Dr Sandeep Kaushal, Medical Superintendents Dr Ashwani K Chaudhry and Dr Sandeep Sharma and other dignitaries.
Prem Kumar Gupta Secretary, Managing society DMCH congratulated the organizing team for conducting such excellent CME whose theme was Minimizing Medical Mishaps.
Prinipal, Dr Sandeep Puri highlighted that, this CME is the best platform for the faculty members to learn best practices about facing and managing crisis situations in day to day life. We have already started ATCOM (attitude, communication, and ethics) Module for our medical students to teach them about medical ethics said Dr Puri.
Organizing Secretary and Director of Course, Dr P L Gautam (Professor & Head Department of Critical Care Medicine) said that main focus of this CME is to reduce error and improve the outcome while dealing with extremely harmful (catastrophic) situations while dealing with patients / attendants. This hybrid program included sessions on various sessions on CRM – Concept, Situation analysis, Decision making, Hazardous behavior, Team science, reducing error and mishaps and case simulations said Dr Gautam.
The faculty from various specialties from different part of the country expressed their views and shared their experiences. Eminent speaker's, Professor G D Puri (PGIMER Chandigarh), Prof. Dhruva Chaudhry Past president ISCCM, Dr Rajesh Chandra Mishra, President ISCCM, Professor Vivan McAlister (Canada) shared their experiences in this field with the delegates. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Anju Grewal, Professor & Head Department of Anesthesiology.
As CRM concept was derived from aviation, the conference was greatly supported by aviation experts of India- Wg Cdr Puneet Sharma (Veteran) and Captain Siddhartha Reddy.
The CME included the lectures, panel discussion and case based discussion to make it more interactive. The CME was attended by more than 100 delegates physically and more than 200 delegated attended this virtually.
