CME on ‘the fundamentals of dynamic psychotherapy’ held
Dr Akhtar says psychodynamic therapy is psychological interpretation of mental and emotional processes
Ludhiana: Department of Psychiatry of DMCH Ludhiana organized a two-day CME on ‘The Fundamentals of Dynamic Psychotherapy’ in Auditorium of DMC College Campus. The CME was conducted by renowned psychiatrist from Jefferson Medical College, USA-Dr Salman Akhtar, who has many academic achievements to his credit in the field of Psychiatry.
Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta formally inaugurated CME alongwith Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Medical Supdt Dr Ashawani Chaudhary, Dr Ranjive Mahajan (Professor & Head of Psychiatry,DMCH), Dr Navkiran Mahajan (Professor of Psychiatry, DMCH). Also present on the occasion were other faculty members from the Department of Psychiatry including Dr Rupesh Chaudhary, Dr Pankaj Kumar and Dr Mitthat Miglani.
Course Director-Dr Ranjive Mahajan extended warm welcome to the dignitaries and delegates present on the occasion. In his address, Dr Mahajan said concept of ‘Dynamic Psychotherapy’ is a very old one but with time and in present times, there is renewed enthusiasm for this discipline among the practicing psychiatrists. The aim of conducting the conference is to educate the participating delegates about various fundamental aspects of ‘Dynamic Psychotherapy’
In his address, Dr Akhtar said Psychodynamic therapy is the psychological interpretation of mental and emotional processes. It aims to address the factors responsible for developing psychological problems in the individuals and seeks to reduce the symptoms and improve people’s lives. In psychodynamic therapy, therapists help people gain insight into their lives and present-day problems. They also evaluate patterns people develop over time.
Dr Akhtar stressed that early childhood development has a long lasting impact on later life of an individual in terms of his behaviour, habits and personality traits Understanding the period of early development right from birth of a child is very essential to understand the personality and behaviour of any individual in his/her later years and role of mother in shaping up the overall personality of a person can never be undermined, said Dr Akhtar. /(March 1, 2020)
