Bengaluru, October 14, 2024: CMR University’s School of Design and School of Architecture jointly organized the 116th edition of the “Threads and Weaves” workshop at its Lakeside campus Bagalur. As part of the university’s Full-Scale series, this workshop aimed to foster sustainability, hands-on creativity, and collaboration.

Over 110 students participated in the workshop, which focused on repurposing textile waste into innovative art installations and murals. Textile expert Prof. Meghana from Srishti Manipal led the textile art segment, demonstrating how to transform discarded sarees into functional interior décor items. Simultaneously, Artist Bhanu from CMR University’s School of Architecture guided students in painting vibrant murals on the metal facade of the CMRU Student Activity Center.

The workshop addressed the critical issue of textile waste, the second-largest category of waste after construction debris. Students creatively reused discarded fabrics to produce functional items like blankets and sunshades, combining aesthetic appeal with utility.

Prof. Muralidhar K, Director of the School of Architecture, praised the initiative, stating, “Workshops like ‘Threads and Weaves’ not only inspire creativity in our students but also encourage them to think critically about sustainability. By turning waste into functional art, we hope to instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment and foster innovative design solutions.”

The “Threads and Weaves” workshop highlights CMR University’s commitment to sustainability by integrating eco-conscious design with artistic expression. This initiative exemplifies the university’s innovative approach to education, inspiring future generations to embrace creativity while promoting environmental responsibility.

Through this collaboration, CMR University continues to be a leader in encouraging sustainable practices and fostering unity within the student community.
