Chandigarh, August 29, 2024: Government Home Science College proudly celebrated National Sports Day on August 28-29, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand, often revered as one of the greatest sportsmen in Indian history. The rationale of the event was to bring together students, faculty, and sports enthusiasts to pay tribute to the iconic figure whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
The celebration commenced with a series of sports competitions, including volleyball, table tennis and yoga demonstrations, allowing students to showcase their talents and engage in friendly competition. The event got an overwhelming response as more than 100 students participated wholeheartedly in the various events. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and camaraderie, reflecting the true essence of National Sports Day. The competitions were keenly contested, with participants displaying remarkable skill, determination, and sportsmanship.
While highlighting the Major Dhyan Chand's unparalleled contribution to Indian sports, principal of the College, Prof. Sudha Katyal, emphasized that the celebration of National Sports Day is not just an event but a reaffirmation of the institution's belief in the power of sports to transform lives.
