College of Agriculture hosts first ‘parent-teacher meet’; Fosters dialogue

Ludhiana, March 11, 2025: In a bid to bridge the communication gap between the two building blocks - parents and teachers, in a students’ holistic development, the College of Agriculture (COA), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, organized its first ‘Parent-Teacher Meet’ (PTM) of students of first year B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture-4 year programme at Pal Auditorium, PAU, on March 07, 2025. Dr Charanjit Singh Aulakh, Dean, College of Agriculture, welcomed the august gathering of parents and guardians. In his warm and enthusiastic interaction with parents and students, he emphasized that this was a new initiative taken up by the college where advisors of students and parents had a one-to-one informal interaction.
Dean COA, Dr Aulakh shared that the motive behind the meeting was to overcome the spaces and gaping holes in a free and informal communication between parents and teachers, and also to discuss the progress as well as problems of the students with their parents. He further called upon the parents to be in regular touch with the advisors and teachers of the students.
Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare, and Chief Guest of the occasion, addressed the gathering and told that a comprehensive dialogue between parents and children is the need of the hour. Several problems hold a solution by mere discussion alone. He also invited the parents to visit the hostels of students.
Dr S. K. Dhillon, Chairperson, Academic Affairs Committee, COA elaborated various semester rules pertaining to academic/degree requirements and called upon the parents to regularly check the mark sheets of their wards and interact with their advisors whenever required.
The parents were quite enthusiastic about the meeting and appreciated this initiative wholeheartedly. Dr Tarundeep Kaur, Chairperson, Parent Teacher Association and Class In-charge proposed a vote of thanks. Dr Pankaj Kumar, Associate Professor held the proceedings of the meeting. All advisors, students and about 50 parents participated in the PTM.
