Dismissing the false claims of Punjab Dyers Association (PDA) wherein PDA has raised objections on the inspection done by joint team of Municipal Corporation (MC) and Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), Municipal Corporation (MC) clarifies that untreated colourful waste of dyeing industry was being dumped from the 50mld CETP into the MC sewer lines and not the domestic waste.

Ludhiana, July 23, 2023: Dismissing the false claims of Punjab Dyers Association (PDA) wherein PDA has raised objections on the inspection done by joint team of Municipal Corporation (MC) and Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), Municipal Corporation (MC) clarifies that untreated colourful waste of dyeing industry was being dumped from the 50mld CETP into the MC sewer lines and not the domestic waste.

Civic body officials further stated that no waste, be it industrial or domestic can be dumped into the MC sewer lines from the CETP. 
 
Dismissing the claim of PDA that MC and PPCB officials never objected to this line in the past, the officials stated that they came to know about this illegal sewer lines during the inspection only.

During the inspection done by joint team of MC and PPCB, it was found that colourful hot water was being dumped into the MC sewer lines through the illegal sewer line that was coming out of the CETP.

Civic body officials stated that the claims/objections raised by PDA are completely false. MC and PPCB teams are authorised to check any premises from where waste is dumped in MC sewer lines and the officials do not need any special permission for the same.

The officials further stated that the directors of PDA obstructed the public servants (MC and PPCB officials) from performing their duty and required action is being taken in this regard. The civic body has also written to PPCB for taking action against the illegal activity wherein colourful waste was being dumped in MC sewer lines through the illegal sewer line coming out of the 50mld CETP.

Meanwhile, a joint team of MC and PPCB caught another leakage in the manhole of PDA through which the untreated waste of dyeing industry was getting into the MC sewer lines in Focal Point phase 8 area.

As per the civic body officials, inspection was done in the area after MC received a complaint regarding colourful water flowing in the MC sewer lines.

During inspection, it was found that there was a leakage in the manhole established by PDA members due to which untreated waste was getting in the MC sewer line. The manhole is a part of sewer line established for shifting the dyeing industry waste to 40mld Focal Point CETP.

Civic body officials stated that the leakage has been  plugged and PPCB senior officials have been apprised of the same.

 

It is clarified that the complaint regarding the colourful water flowing in sewer lines in Focal Point area was given by PDA Focal Point members only. The joint teams of MC and PPCB conducted the inspection after receiving the complaint and this helped the team in plugging the leak.

Civic body officials stated that in this endeavour to save 'Buddha Dariya', it is expected that all stakeholders come together and play their part with responsibility.
