Department of Library & Information Science organized an event for Commemoration of Martyrs in Jallianwala Bagh Massacre
Chandigarh, April 13, 2022: Department of Library & Information Science organized an event for Commemoration of Martyrs in Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Dr. Shiv Kumar, Chairperson, initiated the event with a brief introduction and history about this day. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place in a public garden in Amritsar in the state of Punjab, on 13 April 1919 where local unarmed people were protesting against Rowlatt Act, which gave powers to the police to arrest any person without any reason. All the faculty members of the department presented their views on the issue of martyrs and how Britishers had still not apologized for the atrocities committed at that time by General Dyer. Due respect was given to freedom fighters especially Udham Singh who assassinated Michael O’Dywer in London. Research Scholars, students of UG and PG took part in various activities like poems and sharing their viewpoints regarding Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. The event initiated a feeling of patriotism and reverence for the martyrs who sacrificed for a better future. Main aim of organizing today’s event is to remember the sacrifices of Martyrs. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
