Commemorative Event in the memory of Freedom Fighter Baba Jawala Singh Thatian
A solemn and inspiring function was organised jointly by the Department of History and Punjabi at Lyallpur Khalsa College, in collaboration with IPSA Australia and Sahit Kala Kendra, Jalandhar, to commemorate the legacy of the great freedom fighter and Ghadar Party leader, Baba Jawala Singh Thatian.

Jalandhar, April 5, 2025: A solemn and inspiring function was organised jointly by the Department of History and Punjabi at Lyallpur Khalsa College, in collaboration with IPSA Australia and Sahit Kala Kendra, Jalandhar, to commemorate the legacy of the great freedom fighter and Ghadar Party leader, Baba Jawala Singh Thatian.
The event began with a warm welcome extended by Dr. Suman Chopra, Principal of Lyallpur Khalsa College, who greeted the esteemed guests with bouquets, shawls, and mementos, and expressed gratitude for their valuable presence and contribution to the cause of history and culture.
Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sirsa (Retd.), Professor, Department of Punjabi, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was honoured during the event and awarded a sum of Rs. 21,000. In his address, Dr. Sirsa delved into the revolutionary life of Baba Jawala Singh Thatian, shedding light on his contributions to the Ghadar Movement and the broader Indian freedom struggle.
Adding further depth to the session, Dr. Sarabjit Singh, Professor, Department of Punjabi, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and President of Punjabi Sahit Sabha, paid rich tributes to Baba Jawala Singh for his lifelong dedication to the Indian freedom struggle. He also elaborated on Baba Jawala Singh’s life journey, drawing poignant excerpts from the martyr’s handwritten diary to emphasize his sacrifices and vision for an independent India.
Dr. Gopal Singh Buttar also paid a heartfelt tribute to the enduring legacy of Baba Jawala Singh Thatian and reinforced the importance of remembering the unsung heroes of India’s freedom movement. The stage proceedings were efficiently conducted and moderated by Dr. Harjinder Singh, who ensured the seamless flow of the event.
Vice Principal Prof. Navdeep Kaur, Dr. Surinder Pal Mand, Head Punjabi Department, other faculty members and a large number of students attended this lecture.
