Conferment of Rank of Honorary Colonel Commandant to PU VC
Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been conferred with the rank of “Honorary Colonel” and has been appointed as Colonel Commandant in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by the Government of India.
Chandigarh, July 31, 2024: Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been conferred with the rank of “Honorary Colonel” and has been appointed as Colonel Commandant in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by the Government of India.
The honor is granted to distinguished persons who could contribute significantly in furtherance of goals and activities of NCC. The Vice Chancellor elevated the pride of Panjab University by successfully continuing the legacy of holding the prestigious rank of NCC. She is the first female Vice Chancellor of Panjab University to be conferred with the rank of “Honorary Colonel”.
The piping ceremony was held at Auditorium of Group Headquarters, Chandigarh. The honorary rank and certificate has been issued by Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Director General, NCC, New Delhi and has been presented by Major General Manjeet Singh Mokha, Sena Medal, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh along with Jai Dev Cheema, father of VC and Sandeep Vig, Spouse of VC.
Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig expressed her deepest gratitude for conferment of the prestigious honor. She stated that this prestigious title has not merely been a personal accolade but has been a testimony to the shared commitment and hard work of Panjab University and NCC to uphold the basic tenets of “Unity and Discipline”. She stated that these honorable ranks are conferred with greater faith by the nation and called for the highest dedication and devotion for attainment of defined institutional purposes. She highlighted the prominent stature of Panjab University in the field of education and research. She stated that NCC has a celebrated legacy of instilling discipline, leadership, and a spirit of service in young individuals across the nation. Hence, the association with such an esteemed institution has been a privilege to be held in the highest regard. She stated that as the Vice Chancellor of the University, she owes this honor to the stupendous legacy of the premier institution and therefore, pledges to dedicate oneself to uphold the core values and principles of NCC with greater sense of responsibility and devotion.
Later, the Chief Guest, Major General Manjeet Singh Mokha in his address highlighted the immeasurable role of NCC in inculcating the values of patriotism, leadership and dedication among the youth across the nation. He stated that NCC, as an institution, has a storied legacy of developing and streamlining the potential and capabilities of youth of our nation.
The event was attended by senior officials of Panjab University, Deputy Commander, Commanding Officers of various units, Senior Defence Services Officers, Principals of various colleges, Associate NCC Officers, Cadet Instructors, Cadets & staff of NCC.
