Congratulating LPU, Virat Kohli shares ‘India needs 10 more LPUs’
Also congratulated LPU on breaking the record for Olympic participation
Jalandhar: Virat Kohli, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has congratulated Lovely Professional University (LPU) on breaking the record for Olympic participation. He took to ‘Instagram’ and urged LPU to send their skilled players in cricket too. His post reads, "What a record! 10% of Indian Olympians are from Lovely Professional University. I hope LPU will send students to the Indian Cricket team also! "He further captioned, “India needs 10 more LPUs. Best of luck to the 11 LPU students who are representing India at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Truly, a great achievement!” In another post he has urged all Indians: “Let’s come together and support all our athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics.”
In fact, 11 students of LPU are part of the Indian contingent, representing the country in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. India's men's hockey team captain Manpreet Singh, who is also an MBA student at LPU, led the Indian contingent during the opening ceremony in Tokyo on July 23. This is the highest number of students ever selected to any Indian Olympic contingent from an Indian private university. LPU students are showing their skills wonderfully at the Tokyo Olympics.
With a great start on Day-4 of Tokyo Olympics, LPU student Rupinderpal Singh’s two-goal strengthened Indian hockey team to edge towards the winning podium. He contributed a lot for Indian team’s robust 3-0 victory over Spain by converting two coveted opportunities into goals. Another goal was scored by his team mate Simranjeet Singh.
Illustrative, the Men's ‘Gold’ medal match for Hockey will be held on August 8th at 3:30 pm. Other LPU students participating in Tokyo Olympics- Neeraj Chopra (Javelin Throw), Amoj Jacob (Relay Race), Bajrang Punia (Wrestling) will exhibit their winning skills from 4th August onwards. Bajrang Punia will also be the Indian flag bearer during the closing ceremony scheduled on 8th August 2021. Para-athlete Nishad Kumar, who is pursuing a bachelor's degree at LPU, is to participate for the Paralympics’ High Jump.
Welcoming the high words of appreciation by the ace cricketer; LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal promises to be up to all expectations from the university. Mr Mittal shares that all endeavours at LPU are to bring back the yester-years’ prestige of the country as “Vishv Guru” in all fields.
