Congress national secretary raises demands of MPWs
Says this class has a special contribution in providing the health services in rural areas

National Secretary of the Congress party and former Minister of HP Government, Sudhir Sharma said today that in the Health Department of HP, out of 2060 sanctioned posts of Multipurpose Health Worker (Male), around 1800 posts are lying vacant and about 800 posts of Women Health Workers are also lying vacant out of the total sanctioned 2259 posts in the state. “This class has a special contribution in providing the health services in rural areas as every village has access to a multipurpose health worker and if these vacancies are not being filled even during the corona epidemic, health services in rural areas will come to a standstill,” added Sharma.
He said that according to his information, many health centres in Himachal Pradesh do not have, even a single health worker, whereas many centres are closed as health workers appointed there have been given additional charge of two to three more health centres.
He demanded from the HP government that the vacant posts of multipurpose health workers should be filled immediately to meet the Pandemic and posts of health workers and supervisors be created in those primary health centres, where these workers are needed.
He said, “MPW Training institutes of the Health Department which are not working, should be re-started and training batches of multipurpose health workers should be started so that people in rural areas can be provided good health facilities. The trained health workers, who have been waiting for their posting for years now, should also be appointed. These appointments should be made fifty percent on a batch basis and fifty percent through the commission.”
He further said, “If the government does not fill these vacancies, the Honourable High Court should intervene for filling of these vacancies, as such employees are very much needed in this hour of Covid 19.”.
Advocating the multipurpose health workers (MPW’s), he said, “So far these multipurpose health workers have not been placed in the category of Corona Warriors. In the Health Department, some categories are being given a two-month incentive, but this category has also been kept out of it. Which is an injustice to this group.”
Sudhir Sharma said that ASHA workers have played an important role during the Corona period in the state and the government should set a policy soon to regularize them.
