Dharamsala, October 1, 2021: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and former Central minister, Shanta Kumar said that the Congress has now become a joke in the whole country.
He said that Congress is the only national party in the country after BJP, all the rest of political parties are confined to either one state or one family.
Shanta feared that if the Congress was eliminated from political canvass, India's democracy will be without a national opposition.
“The chariot of democracy moves on two wheels. One is the ruling party and the other is the opposition,” said Kumar.
In a press release issued here today, Shanta Kumar said that today fortunately the most popular Prime Minister in the world, Narendra Modi is proving a successful leadership, but for the best democracy, it is also very necessary to have a healthy and strong opposition in the country. He said, “Atalji used to say that we should not always stay in the small walls of parties - that is why I am saying this while standing in the temple of the nation.”
He said that there is only one treatment for the fast spreading disease of Congress that Congress should come out of the slavery of Gandhi family. Even today, there is more than one national leader in the Congress. Shanta Kumar said that the party which liberated the whole country, is dying due to suffocation in the slavery of a family.
Shanta Kumar  requested the ex CM Punjab Capt Amrinder Singh, not to leave Congress and  sit together with G23 leaders like Ghulam Navi Azad, Kapil Sibal and Tharoor to fight for freedom in the Congress party and break out of the bondage of one family. Apart from the Gandhi family, all the big leaders of Congress should sit together to rebuild a strong Congress. “Remember the old history of Congress and then move forward by making one new leader as the President of the party to save it. I am confident that India can get a strong and national opposition. This will be a great service to the country,” said Shanta. He said that he always thinks first as an Indian and not only as a party worker.
