Copyright Granted on Work of Researchers at University Business School PU
Chandigarh, January 9, 2024 : Professor Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, felicitated the Team comprising Prof. Keshav Malhotra, Dean Faculty of Business Management and Commerce, Prof. Purva Kansal, and Neelam Chauhan of University Business School, Panjab University, who have got their work, entitled ESG Index for Measuring Comprehensiveness of ESG reporting in India, protected under The Copyright Act. The Team has been actively pursuing their research on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Issues faced by Indian Companies. Professor Paramjeet Kaur, Chairperson, UBS and Prof. Namita Gupta, Director, Public Relations were also present on the occasion.
The work entailed in the copyright will help the Policy maker in India to guide companies in their ESG reporting practices by assessing the quality and quantity of ESG disclosure published by them. The preliminary coding based on 2020-2021 data has indicated that Indian companies are excelling in governance reporting but need to improve their environmental and social reporting. Though the companies are using other international indexes or framework for providing their ESG information, but none provided a comprehensive common platform for comparison, for which the new copyright index will help bring them all on one common comparable platform. Accordingly, the investors can easily make comparisons of the ESG information provided by different companies as well as industry. Therefore, now they canmake informed decisions based on reporting scores obtained using the developed ESG index. Besides publishing and presenting their work, the team plans to take their research to next level and also transferring the copyright for better assessment both at local and global level.
