Coromandel installs new oxygen generator at Ranipet

Chennai, March 4, 2022: In a bid to boost the country’s efforts in alleviating oxygen shortage at any point of time, Coromandel International Limited, the country’s second largest Phosphatic fertilizer player and part of Murugappa Group, has installed a new 200 LPM Oxygen Generator at the Government Headquarters Hospital in Ranipet.
 
Mr. R. Gandhi, Hon’ble Minister for Handlooms & Textiles, Govt. of Tamil Nadu and Mr. D. Baskara Pandian (IAS), District Collector inaugurated and handed over the Oxygen Generator to the District Health Authority Dr. Kannagi (District Joint Director – Medical Services). Mr. Mohammed Gani, Joint Director – Industrial Safety & Health was also present at the event.
 
Mr. R. Gandhi lauded Coromandel’s efforts towards filling the need gaps in hospitals and other healthcare units. Coromandel has provided 7 oxygen generator plants across different regions in the current financial year to meet the oxygen requirements which arose due to COVID-19 complications.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Arun Alagappan, Executive Vice Chairman, Coromandel International Limited said, “When the nation was hit by an unprecedented second wave of COVID-19, the demand for medical equipment and life-saving oxygen saw a major spike. And that’s when most of us started realising the importance of medical oxygen. We stand shoulder to shoulder in this collective endeavour to ensure that no medical treatment suffers on account of oxygen shortage. Coromandel hopes that critical medical aid and care will be provided to the needy patients and that this initiative will help ensure medical oxygen availability in the region.”
 
Medical oxygen is used to provide a basis for virtually all modern anaesthetic techniques; restore tissue oxygen tension by improving oxygen availability in a wide range of conditions such as COPD, cyanosis, shock, severe haemorrhage, carbon monoxide poisoning, major trauma, cardiac / respiratory arrest; aid resuscitation; provide life support for artificially ventilated patients; and to aid cardiovascular stability.
 
With this installation at Ranipet’s Government Headquarters Hospital, an additional 50 beds and the Dialysis unit at the new wing of the hospital will be served Oxygen from this generator.

Oxygen generators separate oxygen from air so that the gas can be fed into industrial processes in real-time or stored in pressure tanks. Oxygen generators are used in dozens of industrial applications ranging from gold mining to aquaculture to life support. Normal ambient air is made up of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and other trace gases like argon and CO2. In order to remove the nitrogen and trace gases, an oxygen generator is used.
