CORRUPTION CASES: VB nabs six officials in bribery cases, six officials convicted by special courts

Chandigarh, November 6, 2012: State Vigilance Bureau has arrested six officers red handed in different corruption cases and was able to secure the convictions of six officers in different prosecution cases contested by the Bureau in the last month.

Disclosing this here today, Suresh Arora, Chief Director-cum-DGP Vigilance Bureau Punjab said that Bureau has put up its best efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere in the State. In this direction, the Vigilance officers have ensured that suspect did not escape judicial punishment in the various courts in the State.

He added that during the last month of October, the Vigilance had nabbed Baldev Singh, ASI (No.8) posted at PS Sadar Faridkot, Mohan Lal Accountant posted at Desh Bhagat College Bardwal, District Sangrur, Jarnail Singh Kanungo Circle Tehsil-1, Jalandhar, Prem Nath Junior Engineer Powercom Kot Ise Khan, Amrik Singh Cashier-cum-Field Officer, PADB Lehragaga, District Sangrur and Bhola Singh R.A Powercom Sub-Division Sanghera, District Barnala red handedly demanding and accepting bribes in different trap cases.

He further added that the Bureau has also registered five vigilance enquiries and two vigilance cases relating to disproportionate assets against suspect corrupt officials to probe into the alleged allegations.

The Vigilance Chief said that during the last month the special courts have sentenced six officers in different prosecution cases after finding them guilty. The accused Harbhajan Singh ALM Powercom Moga, Gurdev Singh JE Powercom Patiala, Gurnanad Singh Head Constable PS Bhadour, District Barnala, Babbal Krishan Patwari at Bhamia Kalan, District Ludhiana, Dharm Singh Patwari Dhakansu, District Patiala and Pardeep Kumar Sharma Patwari Hajara Singh Wala, District Ferozpur were sentenced for two years to three years imprisonment alongwith fines.
