COVID 19: Last rites of deceased Surinder Kaur performed by government officials
Family members do not show any interest in cremation; Bhog on Saturday
Ludhiana: Ludhiana resident Surinder Kaur, who passed away due to Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19) yesterday, her last rites were performed by the officials of the district administration after her family members did not show any interest.
While providing information, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mr Iqbal Singh Sandhu informed that the family has even refused to hold her blog function and now, he, along with the support of SDM Ludhiana (West) Mr Amrinder Singh Malhi and District Public Relations Officer Mr Prabhdeep Singh Nathowal would organise the blog function. He said that people should not forget their family values and traditions due to this disease and should not run away from their responsibilities.
He informed that the Bhog of Surinder Kaur would be held on Gurudwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh, Model Town Extension on April 11, 2020. He said that as per the directions of the Punjab government, social distancing would be maintained during the blog ceremony.
Mr Sandhu informed that Surinder Kaur had passed away at Fortis Hospital yesterday, after which her family members even refused to collect her dead body from the hospital. He rued that even during the cremation, her family members kept sitting in their car far away. He informed that from collecting her body to performing last rites, everything was done by Sub Registrar Mr Jasbir Singh himself.
Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal appreciated this effort of the District Administration officials and appealed to people to not fall prey to rumours or fake news related to COVID 19.
As per the directions of the Health Department, the cremation can be held as well as ashes can be collected without any risk as it does not lead to any spread of COVID 19.
