Chandigarh, November 22, 2012: An awareness camp was organised by Prakash Foundation, an NGO for farmers’ empowerment, at Palai village in Budaun district in UP, in which professionals from diverse backgrounds participated.

A candle march was taken out to symbolise awareness besides screening of some useful movies.

Palai village is 500 km away from Chandigarh.

Highlight of the programme was interaction with the farmers and children in the presence of a high profile delegation arrived in the village from Delhi and Chandigarh.

Prominent among the visiting team included Col (Retired) Vijay S Jamwal, Life Skills Trainer, Canny Gogia, US returned Management Trainer, Manish Bansal and senior press photographer Vinay Malik.

The group was led by long-time journalist and founder of Prakash Foundation, Narvijay Yadav.

The villagers got a surprise when, for the first time in their village, two interesting movies were screened at the Government Junior School grounds, Swades and Lagaan.

The villagers showed keen interest in the game of cricket and expressed joy while watching Aamir Khan leading his cricket team against the British team.

Narvijay Yadav said, “I am really happy to see professionals from different fields sitting in the village. I hope the state government will now show some interest in solving the existing problems of illiteracy, sanitation, electricity and infrastructure in this village. Prakash Foundation will continue its efforts to bring some remarkable changes in the condition of the village.”

Palai village lacks electricity connections, sanitation and proper education to the girls. The village has not a single toilet in any house. Poles are there but without power. The condition of education is in bad shape. Prakash Foundation has written letters to the chief minister and other officials for the improvement in the situation.

Prakash Foundation is empowering the farmers through information and awareness. The NGO aims at bringing a measurable change in the rural areas of the country and wish to root out the conventional limitations which obstruct the growth of the real India, where over 69 percent of the population resides. It is paying special attention to increase the agricultural production by motivating farmers to use new technologies and methods of farming. To achieve this objective, the organisation plans to bring agricultural scientists and officials closer to the farmers. A rural newspaper in a simple language is also being planned to bridge the communication gap.
