Punjab Cabinet ministers and CPSs mourn untimely demise, Manoranjan Kalia too expresses deep concern

Chandigarh/Jalandhar, October 25, 2012: Noted comedian Jaspal Bhatti was cremated in Chandigarh this evening.

His son, Jasraj Bhatti performed the last rites.

Renowned personalities such as singer Jasbir Jassi, comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi, actor Mehar Mittal, actress Yami Gautam and Nek Chand were present.

Chief Minister's Advisor on National Affairs and Media Harcharn Bains offered condolences and attended the cremation of the celebrated satirist and humanist Jaspal Bhatti on behalf of the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Revenue and Information and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia in Chandigarh this evening.

Bains described the sad demise of Bhatti as a terrible blow to the world of performing arts and also a major loss of a National Icon of honesty and integrity. He said that the Punjab Government in consultation with the family of Bhatti will explore ways to promote the rich legacy of eminent Punjabi Film and TV personality Jaspal Bhatti.

Bhatti had died in a road accident in the wee hours near Shahkot in Jalandhar district today when he was on his way to Jalandhar alongwith his actor son Jasraj, Surili Gautam, heroine of the film 'Power Cut' and his publicity manager Navneet Joshi.

Jasraj was also injured in the tragic accident and was brought to Chandigarh in the afternoon from Ludhiana's DMCH after he requested the hospital doctors to permit him to perform the last rites of his father.

Chandigarh: Cabinet Ministers and Chief Parliamentary Secretaries of Punjabtoday expressed deep shock at  the tragic and untimely demise of renowned comedian  and satirist Jaspal Singh Bhatti, who died early in the morning in a road accident.

In a joint condolence message, Chunni Lal Bhagat, Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Anil Joshi and Surjit Singh Rakhra, Sarwan Singh Phillaur (All Cabinet Ministers of Punjab), Mantar Sigh Brar, Sohan Singh Thandal, Mohinder Kaur Josh, Parkash Chand Garg and N.K. Sharma (All Chief Parliamentary Secretaries of Punjab) said that with his death a void has been created in comedy world which could not be fulfilled. They prayed to Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the family members to bear this irreparable loss.

Manoranjan Kalia expressed deep shock:

Jalandhar: BJP National Executive Member and the patrty’s state Spokesperson Manoranjan Kalia has expressed deep shock and grief on the sudden demise of Jaspal Bhatti. Terming him a great artist, he said it was a great loss to Punjab.                                                 The party’s state Media Cell Convener Rajat Kumar Mohindru has expressed grief over the sudden death.
