CRPF TO TAKE OVER SECURITY OF JAILS: PUNJAB DGP DINKAR GUPTA
DGP HOLDS MEETING WITH POLICE OFFICIALS FROM FEROZEPUR AND FAZILKA TO REVIEW SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS IN VIEW OF GENERAL ELECTIONS FEROZEPUR, March 15, 2019: Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta on Friday said that Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will take over the internal security of high-security jails into its own hands in the state after the general elections. Gupta was speaking to media persons after presiding over a review meeting with the police chiefs of Ferozepur and Fazilka. He said that earlier Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was decided for the same purpose but the project failed to get materialized. Gupta said now the talks are final with CRPF to guard jails which have lodged dreaded criminals and gangsters and after elections, security will be handed over to CRPF. DGP said that Punjab Police is committed to holding the elections free, fair and transparently and no one will be allowed to disturb the peace of the state. He said Punjab Police have already waged a war against the drug menace to make the state drug free Punjab. DGP further revealed that police have identified 124 drug-affected areas in the state where the people are affected by the drug menace including nine in Ferozepur and four in Fazilka. Punjab Police Chief added that the concern DSPs and SHOs will be held accountable for the drug affected areas and any kind of negligence will not be tolerated. He said that the police have been keeping a vigil on the gangsters and special measures are being taken in Ferozepur and Fazilka district due to its boundary with Rajasthan. On the occasion, ADGP Ishwar Singh, Gurpreet Kaur Deo, Ferozepur SSP Sandeep Goel, Fazilka SSP Deepak Hilori and others were present.
