Jalandhar, October 19, 2024: During the vibrant 67th Zonal NASA (National Association of Students of Architecture) Convention held at CT Group of Institutions, 161 students came together in a grand effort to create a 70-foot by 70-foot portrait of India’s iconic architect, BV Doshi. This attempt is aimed to break the previous record of 1500 sq.ft Acrylic painting in the Group category. Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi, one of India’s most celebrated architects, was awarded the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2018, becoming the first Indian architect to receive the honor.
The project was undertaken with the aim of setting a record in the Limca Book of Records in the 'Above 18 years' category. The portrait, created using acrylic paints, bubble wrap, and innovative techniques, stands as a tribute to the Padma Bhushan and Pritzker Prize-winning architect, whose contributions to architecture and urban planning have left an indelible mark.
“This project is a monumental way of honoring BV Doshi's legacy. It is heartening to see students channel their admiration into such a large-scale and meaningful creation,” said Kashish Saini, Zonal President of NASA’s Zone 1.
Witnesses included Ar. Dinesh Chander Bhagat, Head of Department at Govt. Polytechnic Jalandhar, who praised the students' teamwork, and Ar. Ravina, Assistant Town Planner, who emphasized the project’s inspirational impact on future architects.
The portrait was completed under the supervision of Head of the Dept of Architecture, Ar Shruti H Kapur, faculty members, ensuring that the final piece mirrored the visionary approach of Doshi himself. The successful project has now been submitted to the Limca Book of Records for official recognition.
