CT University’s faculty of School of Law delivers guest lecture on Gender Sensitization held by Ministry of Home Affairs
Ludhiana, February 11, 2022: CT University’s School of Law faculty Dr. Divya Khurana has delivered a lecture on special acts dealing with Crime against Women with special focus on Domestic Violence Act, 2005 at Central Detective Training Institute, Chandigarh, organized by Ministry of Home Affairs. The guest lecture was held during a 5 day online training programme on Gender Sensitization (NCW course) for Police Officers up to the rank of DSP from all over the country. The course was attended by more than 40 officers pan India.
The focus of the lecture was on detailed discussion on Domestic Violence Act, 2005, Dowry Prohibition Act in reference to Sections 498A/304 B of Indian Penal Code. Dr. Khurana discussed the present changes brought down by the courts in the laws dealing with crimes against women. The discussion also highlighted that the Supreme Court of India has changed the perspective of the Domestic Violence law as a gender neutral law and also added other contemporary nuances into it like live-in relationships. The participating officers shared the issues which they face during their interaction with the general public in such cases and clarified many legal aspects involved therein.
