CU Punjab successfully hosts special lectures on drug discovery and research by acclaimed scientists on Teachers' Day
On the occasion of Teacher's Day, Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, successfully organized two special lectures featuring renowned scientists in the fields of drug discovery and medicinal chemistry.
Bathinda, September 5, 2024: On the occasion of Teacher's Day, Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, successfully organized two special lectures featuring renowned scientists in the fields of drug discovery and medicinal chemistry.
The invited speakers of this programme were Prof. Asit K. Chakraborti, IACS Emeritus Fellow and DAE Raja Ramanna Fellow, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Sciences (IACS) Kolkata and Prof. Diwan S. Rawat, Senior Professor of Chemistry, University of Delhi & Vice-Chancellor of Kumaun University, Nanital, Uttrakhand. The event conducted jointly by the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products, the Department of Pharmacology, and the Department of Chemistry attracted students, faculty members, and researchers, providing a platform for scientific learning and engagement.
In the first lecture, titled “Sustainable Medicinal Chemistry in New Drug Discovery and Development,” Prof. Asit K. Chakraborti discussed sustainable approaches to drug discovery, emphasizing eco-friendly methods such as green solvents and atom-economical reactions. He highlighted novel concepts and their potential to revolutionize medicinal chemistry by balancing innovation with environmental responsibility. His insightful presentation inspired the audience, demonstrating the future of drug development through sustainable practices.
The second lecture, “Parkinson’s Disease Research: Exploring the Indian University Ecosystem,” was delivered by Prof. Diwan S. Rawat. He shared insights into the discovery of a potential treatment for Parkinson’s disease and explored how Indian universities are contributing to this critical research. His talk emphasized the importance of fostering a supportive academic environment to encourage innovation and breakthroughs in medicinal research.
On this occasion, Prof. Raj Kumar, Programme Co-ordinator, expressed gratitude to the invited speakers and highlighted that the lectures provided an invaluable opportunity for the exchange of knowledge.
