CUPB students shines in national/state-level competitive examinations and PhD entrance exams of top HEIs
A CUPB Dept. of Zoology student topped the ICMR/JRF competitive exam held in September 2021
Bathinda, December 16, 2021: While fulfilling the aspirations of making a bright career in teaching and research, the students studying in the postgraduate programmes of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) set high benchmarks in various national and state-level competitive examinations for lectureship and research fellowships and PhD Entrance Tests of esteemed Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). As per CUPB Internal Quality Assurance Cell, around 49 students qualified for ICMR/JRF, ICAR-ASRB, UGC-NET /JRF, GATE, and DBT competitive examinations between July—December 2021. In addition to this, 21 students cleared PhD entrance tests at top HEIs in India and abroad in this period.
Among students who have qualified for competitive examinations, Mr. Sayan Gupta, a student of CUPB Dept. of Zoology, has topped the ICMR/JRF Entrance Examination 2021, by obtaining the 1st rank in the "List of Selected Candidates-Life Sciences JRF 2021" declared by the Indian Council of Medical Research in December 2021.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, congratulated the students who had qualified for various competitive exams and PhD Entrance Exams and conveyed his best wishes. He gave the credit for the student's success to the qualified and experienced faculty members who had prepared and motivated them to crack these exams. Prof. Tiwari also shared that the university has established Competitive Examination Cell (CEC) to cater the needs of students. CEC will guide and help the students in the preparation of various competitive examinations.
Prof. Monisha Dhiman, Director IQAC, mentioned that, as envisioned in NEP2020, the Central University of Punjab focuses on designing programme curriculums based on predefined learning outcomes for each subject programme, which will help the learners to acquire essential and updated knowledge related to their discipline and enable them to prepare for their respective competitive examinations. She added that in addition to qualifying for various competitive examinations, students also cleared PhD entrance exams of premier HEIs in India and abroad, such as University of Texas at Arlington (USA), IIT Kanpur, IIT Indore, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, National Institute of Immunology, etc.
These students are from various departments such as Dept. of Microbiology; Dept. of Biochemistry; Dept. of Pharmacology; Dept. of Geology; Dept. of Botany; Dept. of Applied Agriculture; Dept. of Environmental Science and Technology; Dept. of Zoology; Dept. of Computer Science and Technology; and Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics.
