Curtain raiser to Symposium on Ayushman Bharat at PU
Chandigarh, January 17, 2019: A symposium on Government of India’s flagship scheme Ayushman Bharat will be organized by the Department of Public Administration, Panjab University, Chandigarh in association with Society for the Promotion of Ethical and Affordable Health Care (SPEAK) India at ICSSR Complex, Panjab University on Friday 18th January, 2019. Honourable Health Minister Punjab Sh. Brahm Mohindra will be the Chief Guest. Eminent speakers will include Prof B.S.Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University; Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions, PU; Dr. G. Dewan, Director, Health Services, Chandigarh Administration; Dr. P.K. Taneja, IIPA, New Delhi; Prof Keerti Pradhan, Expert, Health Management, Chitkara University; Dr. Anurag Sharma, Senior cardiologist, OJAS Hospital, Panchkula; Dr. A.S.Kohli, ex-Regional manager, National Insurance, company Ltd.; Mr Rajeev Roy, Senior Journalist, Daily Post and ANI; Prof Ramanjit K.Johal (Symposium Director & Chairperson, Dept. of Public Administration) and several others. Mr. A.S.Chatha, (Former IAS) and Mr. Vivek Atray (Motivational Speaker and former IAS) will chair the technical sessions. Participants will deliberate on the feasibility of the scheme and far reaching benefits to the society, if Ayushman Bharat is implemented earnestly. “This co-curricular activity of the Department of Public Administration will expose scholars to expert inputs by policy makers and practitioners with respect to the Central Government’s flagship Health and Wellness Programme”, said Prof. Ramanjit K. Johal, Symposium Director. Dr. R. Kumar ex-PGI senior eye specialist, and President Society for Promotion of Ethical & Affordable Health Care (SPEAK) will deliver the inaugural address and focus on need for ethics and allocation of resources in the success of Ayushman Bharat and highlight the aspects of abuse of medicines, and avoidable exploitation of national resources by the patients and doctors. “Wellness centres; the less hyped component is the soul of Ayushman Bharat and will usher in Health for All”, said Dr. Kumar.
