Cyber Fraud Awareness takes center stage on 2nd Day  of Ambedkar Jayanti Fortnightly Celebrations

Rohtak, April 17, 2025: On the second day of the fortnight-long celebration marking the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA) hosted a highly engaging and informative special lecture on the theme of Cyber Fraud Awareness. The session was delivered by Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Dr. Tarannum Khan, and was attended by an enthusiastic audience of students, faculty members, and staff.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Khan drew attention to the rapid increase in cyber fraud cases over the past few years and underlined the urgent need for public awareness and digital literacy. "We live in a world where the screen has become the new street. While it offers convenience, it also exposes us to unseen risks. Education and vigilance are our first line of defense," she remarked during her keynote address.

One of the key highlights of the lecture was Dr. Khan’s emphasis on “digital arrest”—a term she used to describe the emotional and financial paralysis that victims often experience after falling prey to online scams. She advised students to be cautious with digital transactions, avoid sharing OTPs and personal credentials, and immediately report suspicious activity to cybercrime cells.

Accompanied by her team —Sub-Inspector Simmat Kumar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Dayanand — Dr. Khan demonstrated real-life case studies and techniques employed by cyber criminals to trap unsuspecting individuals. The team used visual aids and simulated scenarios to showcase how fraudsters exploit psychological manipulation and technology to gain trust and steal sensitive data.

Adding a cultural and creative layer to the event, the Acting Department students performed a compelling nukkad natak (street play) in the mini auditorium. The 20-minute play, written and directed by Prof. Vibhanshu, offered a fast-paced, humorous, yet hard-hitting depiction of common cyber fraud traps and the aftermath faced by victims. The lively performance drew repeated applause and served as a powerful medium to spread awareness in a relatable manner.

Senior dignitaries present at the event included Dr. Ajay Kaushik, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Dr. Gunjan Malik, Registrar, who expressed appreciation for the efforts taken to educate students on such a relevant issue.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gunjan Malik remarked, "At a university devoted to art and awakening, raising awareness on social concerns like cyber fraud is essential. Artistic expression, when rooted in real-world relevance, becomes a powerful tool for change."

The event is part of DLC SUPVA’s ongoing commitment to merge academic engagement with social awareness, in the spirit of Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of an informed, empowered, and just society.
