Cyberabad Police and SCSC celebrates Intl Women’s Day
High performers in badminton sport are women: Pullela Gopichand
Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police and Society for Cyberabad Security Council celebrated International Women’s Day at Tech Mahindra, Danube Hall at Hitech City on Friday.
It was a hybrid event—in person and online.(Zoom and streamed live on Facebook ). Five hundred people participated in the celebrations.
Theme for the celebration was the United Nations theme ‘Choose to Challenge’.
Chief National Badminton Coach Mr. Pullela Gopichand was the Chief Guest and Indian Badminton Player Ms. Mansi Joshi, Guest of Honour at the celebrations.
Mr. VC Sajjanar, Cyberabad Police Commissioner; Smt Anasuya, DCP-Women & Children Safety Wing, Cyberabad; Mr Krishna Yedula, Secretary General SCSC; Ms Pratyusha Sharma, Jt. Secretary, Women Forum, SCSC; DCPs Padmaja, Venkateshwarlu, Vinay Agarwal of Tech Mahindra also graced the occasion.
There is no world without women. So be joyful all through the month and year said Mr VC Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police while addressing the gathering.
Lot of people talk about women empowerment but Pullela Gopichand has put it in practice, said Mr VC Sajjanar.
The theme being "choose to challenge", my challenge as Commissioner of Police is to see that women work in all the verticals of Police in Cyberabad Commissionerate.
Gender Equality is under-rated. Our culture taught us to respect women. And that has ingrained us from our childhood said Pullela Gopichand.
My wife feels secured to travel back from the airport to home thanks to the She Team. So also my 18 year old daughter and many athletes at our academy, Gopichand said.
Best performers so far in sporting world like in Badminton have been women. Good about them is that if they decide, they give their 100%, Gopichand concluded his address.
Vinay Agarwal of Tech Mahindra asked the participants to give a standing ovation to all the women in our lives. And said that we come from such a culture where women are respected. We don’t have to prove to the world how we treat our women.
We had a woman president when the most developed countries in the world still can’t boast of, he said.
Pullela Gopichand launched a Safety e learning module in order to create awareness about women safety. Nearly 4 lakh out of 10 lakh IT force work in Cyberabad are women. So this 20 minute digital module is the answer. It is very important. It is launched in 3 languages—Hindi, English and Telugu, said Krishna Yedula. We want to reach out to all employees to achieve a holistic approach in our efforts, he said.
Manasi Joshi, a para-badminton player, the current World Champion and a changemaker who was the guest of honour said that in her hour of crisis she used better balancing skills she learned through the sport, badminton.
She shared her struggle and how she bounced back after her injury and subsequent success as a Para Badminton Player.
Womanhood itself is a celebration. There is no need to celebrate it on one particular day, she observed. I don’t mind being a nth (meaning last player) player, as long as more play the sport and more toe the line which nobody has achieved.
I challenged myself so here I am as DCP. You need to choose what to challenge. Life is full of challenges. The women's day came into existence when few women challenged themselves to fight for their rights, said Mrs. Anasuya.
Views of a cross section of distinguished corporate executives on subjects such women, their safety, gender equality; women day celebration etc was screened.
If you want to see women empowered, their safety is key, said Pratyusha Sharma.
Educating, empowering and enabling are the three key areas we focus on she added for women safety .
2.5 lakh women were trained under various initiatives of SCSC with regard to women safety. There is a long way to go as there is a ten lakh workforce in the IT industry, she added.
Swapna, a survivor of Domestic Violence in her video message said marriage is just part of life. If it works fine, if not also, still fine. There is so much life beyond it. She narrated her struggle. So also a Malayalee woman who married a Telugu man in her audio message played recalled how various initiatives of SCSC and police helped her unite with her son and wage boldly her battle.
SCSC announced the launch of the Game Based Challenge on the eve of women’s day.
Many women achievers such as Kalpana Ramesh, Shravani, Thunki Lavanya and others were honoured with awards
Many contest winners were presented awards.
Venkat Tankasala Ramesh Khaja & Praveen and others graced the celebration.
