Daadi brings the family together: Joyoshree Arora aka Dadi from Sony SAB’s Sab Satrangi
• How does it feel to be associated with Sony SAB’s Sab Satrangi?
• I have been associated with Sony a long time ago, but this is my first time with Sony SAB. I am glad to be a part of Sab Satrangi.
• What intrigued you towards the show? Share something about your character. What are you enjoying the most about it?
• When the story was narrated to me, the one thought that came to my mind was, that this show is different. The storyline is very refreshing and would uplift your mood. Baby Maurya is a woman of substance. She was a very pampered wife but she took the role of the head of the family when her husband passed away. She is a very balanced woman. She very strongly and independently took care of her children and now her beloved grandkid Manu. The Daadi’s role is a very fulfilling character, she brings the family together.
• Share something about your character. What are you enjoying the most about it?
• My character on the show has had a challenging life. However, I can very proudly tell that Baby Maurya is the Boss Dadi and is here to break every stereotype that’s attached to her age. She is a woman of substance and celebrates every moment. She is optimistic and firmly believes - what you sow is what you reap. She is a modern grandma and way ahead of her time. Baby Maurya is truly bindass. Her character adds great value to the show as she is equally fun and admirable to everyone. And who wouldn't want to have a Dadi like our Baby Maurya?”
• How is your character different from the other shows on-air now? How much do you relate to your character?
• My character is not your typical daadi. She is very modern, with her thoughts and actions. She is a very ‘in’ kind of daadi. She speaks in English comfortably and she believes in the philosophy of “As you sow, so you reap”- do good and good will happen to you. So yeah, she is a very positive person. She is also very self-aware, as she remembers what the economy was back in the time when she got married vs the current economy. I am looking forward to playing her and I am trying to get into her character right away.
• How are you preparing for your role?
• As an actor, I am very restless, the moment I decided on playing Baby Maurya, I started thinking about her traits, her accent, her children, and grandchildren. I started to understand and tried incorporating the Lucknow accent to my speech. I started thinking what would Baby Maurya do? And tried to add her mannerisms to my daily life so that my onscreen presence is as real as possible. I enjoy my work so much. I always try to bring a certain newness to all the characters I play.
• What do you think the audience will take away from SAB Satrangi?
• The audience will identify with the characters. The name “Satrangi” has been righteously selected because even as human beings, whether a person is nice or otherwise, we are all very different from each other. The show has very real characters. The Daadi’s role is a very fulfilling character, she brings the family together. I believe the character will be a huge hit because people will resonate with her. Baby radiates a very positive attitude, which is very important.
• In your real life, how positive are you as a person?
• I am a very positive person. I just get bored easily and my soul is very restless. I try to enjoy everything – from having a nice cup of tea, to watching the sunrise to hearing the birds chirping. I resonate a lot with Baby Maurya’s character, and I think I will have the same reaction to situations as Baby Maurya. I believe women can do everything, women are nurturers, they have that certain softness in them which is very important. I am truly excited to play this role.
