Ludhiana, October 21, 2024: Daan Utsav-2024 received overwhelming response from the residents of different cities with residents donating 100,000+ clothes, 5000 Toys, 3000 pairs of shoes, 2000 beddings, 1500 utensils, 3000 appliances, grocery, e-waste etc during the 'Daan Utsav'.

The two-day distribution ceremony under 'Daan Utsav' commenced at Indoor stadium, Pakhowal road on Monday. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC Rural development) Dr Harjinder Singh was honoured as the chief guest on the first day and he felicitated the participants and associated NGOs/institutions/associations on the first day. 

Daan Utsav 2024 is being organised by Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana in association with CityNeeds. Apart from Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Mohali, Chandigarh, Ropar and Patiala, the utsav was also observed in Panchkula (Haryana) and Delhi this year.  

The collection drive under the Daan Utsav was held during the first week of October and dropping centres were established across different cities where residents could drop the old/new items for the needy persons.

MC Assistant Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon and Director CityNeeds Maneet Dewan said that residents have participated in the Utsav in large numbers, which is a good sign for a progressive society.

Sekhon and Dewan said that the Utsav was organised under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jitendra Jorwal and MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal. The utsav promotes the concept of RRR i.e. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and Mission LiFE initiated by Government of India. 

Students of 34 educational institutes, members of Lodhi Club and employees of industrial associations including UCPMA, FICO etc have also donated material during the Utsav. Different NGOs including Act Humane; Marshal Aid; Small ideas, Great Ideas among others were also felicitated with appreciation certificates for their active participation. Civil Surgeon Pardeep Kumar Mohindra, President FICO Gurmeet Singh Kular, President UCPMA Harsimranjit Singh Lucky, Harleen kaur from Act Humane also participated in the distribution ceremony on the first day.  

Sekhon and Diwan said that the donated material has been collected from dropping centres and it has now been put in Indoor stadium. The material has been segregated and it would now be distributed among needy persons through NGOs etc. The distribution ceremony would be held in the Indoor stadium on Tuesday too. 
 
ADC Dr Harjinder Singh appreciated CityNeeds, Act Humane and other associated NGOs for the efforts stating that this initiative will surely bring a smile on the face of the needy persons. He further stated that residents should step up and promote this culture of helping others among children for the betterment of society at large. 
 
(sub head) 'Green Utsav' exhibition and blood donation camp organised during concluding ceremony:
  
During the distribution ceremony, Green Utsav exhibition has been organised for the residents to promote the culture of recycling/reusing waste for making useful things. Different NGOs, self help groups etc have set up their stalls and this exhibition will continue on Tuesday too. 

The stalls are also exhibiting organic goods, renewal energy solutions, waste management and eco-friendly Diwali gifts.  

A blood donation camp was also organised on the first day of the distribution ceremony.
