Dharamshala, December 30, 2024: The Dalai Lama has conveyed his heartfelt condolences on the passing of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. In a letter addressed to Chip Carter, President Carter’s son, at the Carter Center, the Dalai Lama paid tribute to the former president’s extraordinary life and legacy.

“President Carter lived a truly meaningful life,” the Dalai Lama wrote, highlighting his decades-long dedication to helping the poor and marginalized, advocating for peaceful conflict resolution, and advancing democracy and human rights worldwide. His Holiness praised Carter’s lifelong commitment to serving others, describing it as a powerful example of how to live with purpose and compassion.

The Dalai Lama also recalled the global recognition of President Carter’s contributions, particularly the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to him in 2002 for his efforts to promote peace and improve humanity's welfare.

Additionally, the Dalai Lama expressed the Tibetan people’s enduring gratitude for President Carter’s interest in and support for the Tibetan cause. “We remain ever grateful to President Carter for his deep concern for the situation in Tibet and his initiatives to help alleviate the plight of our people,” he added.

President Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, was a revered global statesman, humanitarian, and advocate for peace. His passing marks the loss of a leader who dedicated his life to making the world a better place.
